Time to Repair
"The time to repair the roof is when the sun is shining".
John F. Kennedy, State of the Union, 1962.
I know that the population in whole does not see the economy shining and I am not one to promote political quotes or even attempt to understand why we acknowledge political statements with our current U.S. economy. However, we must forge ahead as our grandparents did, by working diligent at our jobs and focusing on our Christian beliefs and family values. Yes I do sound conservative, but when did the true middle class exist and people believe in the American Dream. The answer is simple, when each of the areas I just stated actually held meaning and were respected by our nation and upheld in our government. Justification is not needed for discussion or proof presented, as our current status speaks volumes.
"I do not believe we can wait for the sun any longer". It's time to work hard.

Economics and Heart
How do we evaluate our current situation and future outlook if we add in the emotional factor. If we consider the Heartless factor presented in the time of Woodrow Wilson, then I believe the concensus would be that Wilson might need to up date his choice of wording. We might use the term cruel or many similar words within the family of heartless.
Will we ever see a change o the positive in this mindset or will we continue on the road of Heartless?

Value
You might be a redneck if... the blue book value of your truck goes up and down depending on how much gas it has in it. - Jeff Foxworthy
Determining the value of almost every asset in our economy has become so difficult and more volatile than any other time in history. This is true more so than the Great Depression, as value could be argued to be closer to Zero than our most recent recession. We are trying to predict coal prices, natural gas prices, oil prices, etc. We are saying we want to become more self sufficient, but look at our coal industry. Now the natural gas industry is facing future environmental controls that have shutdown the coal industry.
I have heard since I was a young boy that "we are our own worst enemy." Is there a more TRUE time in history that this statement is REALITY and we are killing our own economy?

"I tell you everything that is really nothing, and nothing of what is everything, do not be fooled by what I am saying. Please listen carefully and try to hear what I am not saying." Charles C. Finn
Another essay question for college applicants. Please post your essay response to this quote and let's see who is listening.

"When they go fishing, it is not really fish they are after. It is a philosophic meditation." E.T. Brown (Thanks, Walden Woods Project, walden.org)
Fishing is relaxing which leads to the meditation component of the quote, but if we relate fishing to philosophic, I would have to say that is where a 12 inch fish becomes a 2 foot fish.

Sometimes it's necessary to go a long distance out of the way in order to come back a short distance correctly. ~Edward Albee
I believe this sums up our entire learning and life process.... No that it is the best way or that going a long distance is wise, however it tends to be the way life develops for all humans.

"I am a part of all that I have met." Alfred Lord Tennyson
This rings true for all of us as we progress through life. We have components within us that are a part of our school teachers, sunday school teachers, and all the people that we encounter during our walk on earth. Our goal should be to screen the influences that we want to encounter in our lives to ensure our total self is made up of great parts.

"Even a clock that does not work is right twice a day." Polish Proverb
In my view it would be a great day to right once in a day. Twice might seem to be impossible. I do not know if "right" is the best word to use in our society, but doing what is right is a better goal to strive for. Let's do for others and encourage those around us.

"If you want to feel rich, just count the things you have that money can't buy."
This is a great exercise to list the many blessings of the people surrounding us in our lives, both past and present. If you have never done this before, stop what you are doing and make the list. Then pickup the phone and call the people that help or helped make your list a true blessing.

"The most perfect political community is one in which the middle class is in control, and outnumbers both of the other classes." Aristotle
If this was known so many years ago and the greatest American economy and happiness existed when this statement was true, why did we turn our backs to this principle?
